Go to the 1 on 1 here at theory 11 and look for the Arron Fisher Card Fundamentals because I here they are a good start. I highly recommend getting The Royal Road to Card magic and Modern Coin Magic books.

Welcome to the Forums and good luck on your magical journey!:)

Welcome!

I would recommend The Royal Road to Card Magic. You should be able to find it at major book stores like Borders or Barnes & Noble. Something along the lines of that. And if you are into Coins then Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. You should also be able to find that at major book stores.

Thanks guys. I will definately take your advise. If you have any other tips for me I will keep a tab on this forum. Thanks again!

I think Art of Astonishment may be a little duanting for someone with no knowledge of magic.

I suggest you go to Barnes and Noble or Borders book store and look for Mark Wilsons Cyclopedia of Magic. It will have basically everything you will need to get started.

While your there, see if you can pick up The Royal Road to Card Magic and Bobo's Modern Coin magic. You might as well pick up Expert Card Technique since your there.

That is if they have all those. If they don't, have them order them. If you have a magic shop close by you can go there and they should most definitly have these books.

That should provide you with enough learning material for a long long time. Then you can pick up Art of Astonishment and any other books that are available.

Don't try and get into the more difficult material yet. You have to walk before you can crawl man.

Anyways, Peace and good luck.

If yo don't know what type of magic you want to do get Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic, which is about $15 at Amazon and Penguin Magic, I think.

Cards:: Book: with that budget you should get a couple of the volumes of Card College by Roberto Giobbi and not bother with the Royal Road to Card Magic, although a great buy.

DVD: I heard Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform is good.

Coins:: Book: Bobo's Modern Coin Magic no question about it.
DVD: Michael Ammar's Complete Intro to Coin Magic.

Find Nicholas Einhorn's website (easy enough, just google it) and buy his "Art of Magic and Sleight of Hand". It teaches all the basics in every area of magic so you can then make a decision on which type to do. It's the book I started with and I think it's fantastic.

I say get atleast one of the following...

Royal Road to Card Magic Book
or
Royal Road to card magic DVD set
or if you want to thake a big leap and give urself alot of work to last you like a hundred years get...
Tarbell Course in magic

All of these are great but if you have a bit mor emoney, get tarbell because you will learn so much from those books, so much that it isnt even funny

But if you don't have a whole heep of money then just get the Royal Road to card magic book or DVD.

My biggest recomendation to you is to stay away from single, overhyped tricks for awhile.

Good Luck with your magic, if you need any help, feel free to PM me or add me on AIM.

P.S. I posted this in both of your threads just incase you forget about one or the other.

I would recommend a DVD to start. If you start out with something such as the royal road to card magic.... you will probably be bored out. I recommend you buy a DVD effect to get you into it, then go into books.

Sinful is what I started with. I love the effect. It's great stuff.

Stigmata is great as well.

Have fun in magic, welcome to the forums, and have a fun time. :)

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!

First, have a look at the Begginers Section. of the site. It will give you loads of info on stuff.
Get a pack of cards, as they are the basic prop magicians have. Most people use Bycicle Playing Cards.. The link i offered you has them in sets of 3. Bicycles are the most commonly used cards in magic.
Also tryout a few 1-on1's. They are only 5 bucks each, so try them out I would reccomened Chris Kenners Invisible Reverse Master Triumphant thing.
You also might wan't to check out Ellusionist. Alot of people are really going to hate me for reccomending something like this to you, but im going to do it anyway.
Try out How To Do Street Magic,Crash Course In Card Magic 1 and Crash Course 2.

If you are into Coins then try the Coin Section at Ellusionist.

I canno't reccomened any stage magic, as i am into close up, but there is a Stage Section at The Merchant Of Magic (UK). That should be enough to get you started, but feel free to Privet Message (PM)me if you would like any more help.

REMEMBER: PRACTISE BEFORE YOU SHOW ANYONE ANY TRICKS!!!!!!!!!!. I still have trouble practising before showing anyone, but i just have to force myself to practise. Try doing it in front of a mirror, video camera, or wall. Wayne Houchin will expalin why in the Begginers Video.

Have fun practising magic, and, eventually, showing it off.

I wouldn't get overwhelmed with a bunch of stuff. Get The Royal Road to Card Magic book or Volume 1 of Card College. There's enough magic in there to last you for a long time. Once you've progressed, get the rest of Card College.

If it's Coin Magic that your interested in, I would get Bobo's Modern Coin Magic Book.

I just saved you a bunch of money.
