Question about collector sets quality

It has been almost a decade since I’ve posted in this forum, but I feel obligated to ask here.

I have some of the old school collectors items such as the Mystery Box, Contraband Book Lamp, Pyramid Puzzle Box, Darren Brown Box Set and even the recent Piracy Box set. All beautifully put together handcrafted pieces that feel like they will last a lifetime.

But the recent collectors sets I’ve purchased like the beetles, obey, lord of the rings, and the 007 (which showed up today) are all disappointingly lacking in quality. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the embossing and what not. But I would much rather pay $100 for one or two less decks if it meant I got a nicer ornamental piece. I used to love displaying these in our various bookcases because they were great conversation starters but tend to kind of hide these newer sets away now. Especially when they show up and a corner is dented or the cardboard insert maybe had glue that failed so it doesn’t hold together as well anymore.

Is there any specific reason for the change from wood/ornamental pieces to more cardboard/foam/paper items? I understand economically there would be some challenges, but as someone who watched the countdown when T11 went live it’s a bit disappointing to shell out that kind of money for an ultimately “meh” collectors box. I have to assume there are others like me who would spend just a little more for something a bit nicer.
