Nice! i have been cubing for quite long but I never actually bothered to try F2L. I do the 1st half of the beginner's method then do PLL and OLL. I average around 45s.
can you please reccomend a good place to learn a more advanced method? I've been solving for a few months but still only use a begginners method due to lack of teaching resources ive been able to find.

There are lots of good places to learn. Here are my recommendations.
http://badmephisto.com/ : Has a great website, easy to understand, Badmephitso has lots of youtube videos for beginners and also advanced people. You can download pdf's of F2L, Oll, and Pll's. Or a PDF of the entire Fridrich method. He also has a good notation guide on his PDF.
Ive been solving the cube for about 8 years now. So yes. When i started i was super slow. 1:40.. Over time i got faster and i was around 30 seconds. Over the last 9 months i have been cubing hardcore! So yeah its been a lot of practice.
