Some Trivial Relief

Hey everybody!

I feel in need of some magic related trivial relief.
Everybody has favourite moves- the pass that you find most comfortable to execute, the double lift you know you couldn't screw up, the production move you think looks coolest... what i want to know is, which moves do you do to death, and/or include in a lot of your own original magic, just because you love doing it??

I'll get the ball rolling...

-The riffle pass. I love this sleight, done in an offbeat, it's perfect, i think more than any other pass, it relies more on the psychology of the execution rather than brute force.

-Rub-a-dub vanish. You may gather from my signature. It's just plain cool, it works, and i guarantee, once you've got it down, watch yourself doing it in a mirror- you'll shock yourself!

-Bottom steal. So effective, versatile, deceptive...Everything a good move should be!

-Sendax rotary pop out move. I learned this from a David Acer tape. He loves it, and so do i. it looks awesome, stunning, quirky, weird, and the best part? So easy!

-Radical Change. I use it ALOT! One of the main reasons i'll always stand by Richard Kaufman, haha.

I mean, theres loads others, but i don't want to hog them all! i look forward to seeing where this could go...

Out Jogged Herman shift - I love it because it looks so fair.

Shapeshifter - I often will just use this as an hey what was that type moments. I will do a few cuts and stuff waiting for a bus. Then when I notice someone watching hit them with a shapeshifter and smirk.

Aaron Fisher's Bluff replacement - So disarming it is not funny.

I will think of some more later after I skim through the Paper Engine.

Aaron's stuff is great in that it hit's that weird spot hovering between hardcore sleight o' hand, and subtle, sneaky, discrepent bits of loveliness! haha. Love it.

Sorry to thread-jack but each slight in the Paper Engine has either replaced or at least influenced the slights I use.

You hit the nail on the head about the fine line between hardcore and smooth slights.

P.S. I know it is not a card slight but some slights I use almost daily.

Acidus Novius, North of the Border centre tear, a very simple add a number pad and out to lunch.

Some of the best mentalism can be done with 5 second set up and the out too lunch setup.

agreed, i only dabble in mentalism, but i have indeed found that simple and direct is the way to go so far! i love the acidus novius principle, i personally use spidey's touches on it, to get the most out of it, and i have actually written up a few of my own effects revolving 'round the out to lunch principle.

c'mon people, more!

i forgot to mention-

-The necktie second deal. As used extensively by Richard Sanders, Jay Sankey and, ahem, Chris Lafferty, haha. This move is super-cool!

I use a sleight so much that Dan and Dave teach in the Trilogy. I forgot what it is called, maybe the graveyard something. Anyway, I love the move.

Emsleys Count for me. I practice it a lot, and it's probably my favorite sleight. The GHP would have to be next. I don't have it down perfectly yet, but it's slowly getting there.

The Ego Change--It has much better cover than you might think.

The Hermann Pass--No one ever sees it.

The Tenkai Palm--The only palm I can do while being grilled.

The Tip Over Switch--The only move I ever consistently use from an E product.

Marlo Tilt--Well, duh.

I'm a big fan of the business card prophesy move, the backstage pass, the Marlo tilt, the shake change and the list goes on.

the prophecy move is amazing. really really good.

i've not watched the 'in action' video's so i've not learned the backstage pass, but to be honest, i love all of greg wilson's stuff, he's my all time favourite magician.

Today i like...

-the twirl change. very cool, practical, striking, angle proof (unless you're performing for a midget)...

-the flipwich move, by David Acer. very effective, novel colour change.

-tent vanish. love it!
