I want to make a routine of sandwich effects (impromptu). What effects do you guys suggest I include?

Bizarre Vanish (Art of Astonishment Volume 3)

You have the spectator hold onto their card while it's sandwiched and then vanish it in their hands.

Half Vanish is pretty good, as is White or Wheat.

If you don't mind a little setup, Catch is a really great way to start a sandwich routine. Just think of some good patter to go with it.

I'd go Catch, and then either White or Wheat or Half Vanish, depending on who you're performing for. Half Vanish has a lot of visual impossibility, but White or Wheat is so damn clean. I'd start with Half Vanish and then finish with White or Wheat since it's the most direct sandwich effect there is, in my opinion.

Aznofspades made me think of something else. You can mix it up by adding in some card vanished from between your sandwich cards. Larry Jennings' handling of Mystery Card has you vanish a card from between two jokers and has it reappear in your pocket, so you may want to look into that. Additionally, the handling is very open for your own personal touches, so if you wanted to do Bizarre Vanish, that would work. Another Paul Harris solution for vanishing the card is Illusion, found in book one of AoA.

But just try to find a way that makes it work for you.

Hope that helps.

A post I made from a while back:

"Dirty Stinkin' Ape in the Middle, from Tyler Wilson's book Dominatricks. Pros - Clever, very clean, natural misdirection only one fairly easy move needed. Cons - Provided patter can be a little corny/inadequate imo. Generally my workhorse, the one I perform most.

A Simple Sandwich, from Aaron Fisher's book The Paper Engine. Pros - Uses only one sleight, simple construction, solid and tight routine in every action, invisible. Cons - That one move is fairly hard. Doesn't appear as visual/impossible as the other two imo. I perform this less but it's very solid. With Gravity Half-Pass down it's also invisible, no-one can tell something happened.

Half-Vanish, from Daniel Madison's Dangerous Vol. I - Mystique. Pros - Creative routine, moat visual of the three, incorporates a nice vanish. Cons - Most complicated of the three to perform, harder to get perfect and it'll be obvious if it's not perfect. I'm still practicing it but it'd be more suitable for energetic small groups if you've got them on side.

Another one on the same DVD is Catch - I don't like it and don't use it, I don't like the flourishy style combined with magic, and even the DVD performance is hesitant and sus imo.

I like all three for different reasons and perform them in different situations. Hope this gives you a few more leads.."

The first two are on my YouTube, as well as current and past battles in the battle arena also.

The best idea I've seen arise pertaining to the sandwich plot is to include a kickback transpo of the sandwich cards and the selection, a la, Karl Hein's 'Grandmothers BLT'.

I do that! I start with Aaron Fishers sandwhich, then move to that, then finish with Daniel Madisons half vanish!

chaser from smooth operations. EFFECT: the magician offers to demonstrate some different aspects of card-related sleight of hand. what follows is a fast paced sequence of cards appearing, changing, teleporting, and transposing with each other in a casual yet highly visual way.
