Were you banned or something and need in under someone else's account? I'm confused. Nobody in their right mind will give you email and passwords.

You are not missing much, just a bunch of old school magicians that are too afraid of modern logic and magic.

I let you know If I decide to relinquish my account later.

The Café is a fairly alright place to lurk around and find interesting ideas that don't relate to cards. I rarely post there, but enjoy lurking around every few weeks just to gain some insight about different forms of magic that go neglected by the cards & coins crowd.

I tend to prefer being around magicians in person, anyway. Anyway -- back on track.

magicman101: See if your internet provider will allow you to register an email address through them. A lot of providers will allow you to register more than one email address with your internet service. That way you don't have to worry about using free email providers for any site you wish to join.

You fail to realize that some of the best in the world are active over there, and it will most likely be the only place you can ever meet them and talk to them. Just because they fail to accept the "revolution" of magic into a finger flicking frenzy about who can create what before the next guy doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing. I'll take their 20 years of hard earned live show experience over some kid who jizzes to dan and dave doing a flashy move or some guy who thinks he the -ish because he created a new control.

Love how you apparently got away with the jizzing to D&D comment, by the way.

You failed to realize that they are indeed old school magicians and that OP is not missing much. I stand by my comment.

To the OP - See if you can get an email through your high school or uni. I've got an account there using my uni account. Failing that, if your folks or any of your friends own a business, and therefore a website domain, they could probably set you up with a private email account on their website, and that would work.

Well said. Let me be the first to coin the phrase "elite level fail".... for our punctuation-abusing...... friend... who doesn't see.... the value in............ the experience of people who...you know, do it for a living.

Over there are numerous professionals who have made livings at it for decades, have their work posted on YouTube, officers and vice presidents of the Magic Castle, and more.

Over here, some "Elite" guy with grand pronouncements and nothing to back it up. I've heard a lot of talk from you, Elite - how about a video? Surely someone as great and learned as you must have all sorts of performances on YouTube from your many bookings... or a list of restaurants you perform at? Or maybe some corporate gigs? Maybe a link to your website? Some of the routines you've developed? Some new plot you've created? Anything?

Fact: The bullsh*t filter is turned up to a maximum level of 100% 24/7/365 at the magic cafe. Meaning, if you come on and talk about things that you obviously do not know much about, you will get called on it in a heartbeat. At times, this will seem harsh to up and coming magicians, but the truth of the matter is, not all, but the majority of the members there do it to help you learn.

Old school does not mean obsolete, it means more experienced. If you fail to realize this, then the problem is with you, not with the cafe.

Basically, in just the card workers section alone, you have about 50 Ricky Smiths-like people who can look up any resource for you and give you page numbers. Now of course, there are some stubborn old men who only like to promote their own works (cough* Harry Lorayne), but they also DO know what they are talking about and will give you some honest critiques.

People who lurk the gambling forum can be pretty in your face hardcore about things, but they can also be extremely useful in terms of historical reference, gaming policy, laws, etc... Mr. England frequently visits this part of the cafe.

The table hoppers/ buskers forums are Amazing! They can give you years worth of insight and advice that will help you take your professional career to a new level. Lately, we have been blessed by Jamie D Grant's posts on this forum, but to tell you the truth, there are hundreds more posts like that (sometimes with more concrete advice) over at the cafe.

I could go on and on.

Now, I know people have their own preferences for what they like to read, but in my honest opinion, telling someone they shouldn't waste their time over at the cafe, is like telling someone who is interested in reading books to stay away from a library. It is just plain bad advice. Get over the past wrongdoings that were done to you there and discover the treasure trove of information.

Haha. Shh. What are the odds he'll find this post by way of Google and say hi?

Steerpike has some good thoughts on this in his blog, and I agree with them. Use the Café to the extent that you can get information from it. There are plenty of people who can help you learn.

On the other hand, I do think that there's another aspect - there's simply a cesspool of egos, grudges and politicised support at the Café - at least in Penny, which is where I lurk. I just go there to check out some thoughts, reviews, and so forth, but don't often post.

The bottom line is, I think there's lots of useful information there. But pick and choose what you take from it and how involved you want to get - use the resource wisely.

Best,

PV

Never seen one of Steer's tricks. He can talk all he wants on his blog but until I see a 10 year old palm a card I'm not impressed. You can learn a lot on the magic cafe.

One time I PM'd David Regal on a trick of his and he liked my variation. Another time Steerpike wouldn't admit it was him. Wolf whatever.

Wolf? Where? *Ear perks and looks around*

Yeah, that dork Wolf etc. was stueer pike. He's probably still trying to learn magic while bombarding magic forums. Except for this one of course. Maybe not so bad but probly pretty weird.

What the straight on attack on others gives you: nothing.
What the acting like you're in trouble gives you: nothing.

Magic is in the moment. Everybody's seen tricks before.
