I have read a few posts with people cursing and its not out of hand and its just freedom of expression and seriously.... Kids will see and hear so much more cursing in the real world than they ever will on here. Many people do curse and and we can't stop the inevitable from happening, kids are gonna see and hear it no matter what we do. And if you are a kid that does magic( and if you are on this site then I am guessing that you do perform for people unless you only show your family), your still gonna hear cursing from your reactions so we shouldn't worry about it.

This is a magic website and we really shouldn't worry about cursing unless it gets out of hand, and it hasn't even gotten near that point yet. Lets have fun, and discuss the real thing we should be focusing on.

MAGIC!

one thing i love about this site is the relaxed nature of most of the people who use it, and especially the sense of humor of the entire T11 gang. if you have a problem, then you fix it. don't expect others to change.

if dan and dave want to swear, then i want dan and dave to swear.

this is a really minor issue in my opinion

Blindside462, I have always respected your posts, on many forums. Here, at the magiccafe, and other places. I don't want to start a slur of insults, so i will just say: Killing happens every day in the world. Does that mean we should not try anything to stop it? it may not help on a large scale, but it does make the world a better place, just a bit.

guys, just because people hear it on tv and in the "real world" does not make it right. thats the problem with the world now, people are getting more and more tollerant to bad things (such as cursing). Chicken is right, just because people are killing other people every day, we should not just go and say "hey, thats ok, we see it every day on tv and the news" come on guys, just respect other peoples standerds and if it affends them, why would it be so hard to just not say it? by saying (or in this case typing) it, it does not make your post any better. in fact it just makes it worse. i dont think its that hard to just use a different word thats not a swear.

"Much worser"?
Is that even a word?

I think that the filter and Jack do an adequate job of blocking the naughty words.
Where can I find the Buck's review of DD?

Ok there tough guy.
It made sense to me.
Sorry if you didn't understand, I didn't know I had to spoon feed you.

"Kids have seen more violent things on television"
Did that make sense?
Let me know, maybe I can break it down a little more if you'd like.

P.S. Yeah, it is a word. Go figure.
We learn new things everyday.

I wasn't trying to act tough, arrogant or like a jackass, but the word seemed genuinely funny to me, and I thought that it was like saying "Gooder".
I posted that because it made me laugh, and I asked an honest question.

In social etiquette, foul language is highly impolite and frowned upon by sophisticated audiences.

Furthermore, your inspiration and productivity should be your outlet for stress, not your mouth.

Personally, the language just represents a lot about the maturity of the site and it's owners.

Honestly people, don't bash people for their beliefs.

If your going to be immature about some person stating their beliefs on swearing and mocking them, then grow-up, seriously.

'Swearing to some people is just every-day and to others it's blasphamy (woo big word). I personally have no problem with people swearing, to an extent, and everyone's tolerance levels are different. I don't agree with this person that swearing should be stopped, I think it's fine and it shows freedom of speech, but I'm not going to go around saying immature things to them.

If your mature enough to use these words in a manner which doesn't offen anyone I don't see a problem with it, others may have a problem with it still but it's not our position to judge.

Actually that's impossible, because using foul language in public settings is considered bad etiquette which includes lack of maturity.

And for those lying to themselves and making excuses like "everybody does it," or "they'll hear it on T.V. anyway," you've acknowledged that it is a problem, and those responses do nothing to solve it. Furthermore, those are blanket statements that are not true. I grew up around a sailor's mouth, I've deal with types of abuse during my childhood, and I was being subjected to nudity when I was a toddler(in movies).

Yet, I do not curse, AT ALL. I am not violent, physically or verbally. And I've grown to respect women as people and not pieces of meat.

Making excuses and trying to let the topic slide off does nothing to offer relevant or significant contribution.

I think People need to keep their hat's on with this profanity thing. I think whoever thinks that he can't handle (jesus, where the hell has the world come to) these words then they shouldn't join a community where 60% of the people are 14 and up.

And Chicken, kindly do us all a favor and speak for yourself. If these "young people" have a problem with the swear words, then let them speak for themselves, not have words stuffed into their mouth violently by someone they never even heard of.

To the original poster- If your not a fan of adult-like subjects, I defienently want to warn you of a thread in the cardistry forum. I don't find anything wrong with it, but you might.

Yes, yes... lets start by banning curse words.. and then we can ban people who use them.. and then it's just a little step to requiring a questionnaire to be filled out in order to join the site... oh then why stop there, we could then require DNA samples from everyone to make sure that if we end up having someone on the message board commit a felony we can catch them easy.... but why stop there? Why not have mods approve every post that is made with their own edits in place of what you really said, and then we can just sit back and let the mods be the only people allowed to post...

Fascism starts small... the internet is supposed to be free. If you don't like what someone says and its a personal attack against you, then follow the correct actions to ensure you are vindicated and it doesn't occur again. But just because you don't want to soil you eyes with a few words... be a big boy and ignore it... I for one am a big boy and I don't need someone to babysit me.

Florida.
We should be able to say all the words that the FCC has allowed to be said on Television. Why are their rules only applicable on TV and not online.
And if you need a list here:

Damn.
******
******
******

Yeah this will most likely get Modded.

You're the only person here freaking out man, YOU need to chill. We're attempting to have a civilized[haha!] discussion here on the different views of profanity on public forums.

And Brundo, if you'd like to actually read Chicken's original post, you'll notice this started off as Chicken speaking for himself. Mainly his concerns about the profanity on the forum. And violently stuffed down your mouth?

Lemme guess, you're one of the 14 year olds right?

For the record, I'm not trying to force any beliefs on anyone as the only reason I joined this thread is to point out the literal social etiquette accepted by today's sophisticated society. Foul language IS considered rude and impolite, it's also very ineffective and sloppy communicating.

I like Ace18's idea:
If the FCC won't let them say it on TV, then we shouldn't be allowed to say it on here.

I agree, and I really think it just comes down to common sense, if you think it will offend anyone, don't use it.

Some swear words can be easily avoided such as "That was f****** awesome" can just be left at "that was awesome" and we'd still get the message. Although I don't think it's much of a problem around here, it's my belief that it just comes down to the people.
