TnR by Mathieu Bich : See the Teaser

I was all ready to dismiss this slightly when i saw that the card had changed as it didn't seem to have any point other than to draw attention to another card being used.

After hearing the breakdown of the effect, I'm now not so concerned by that.
A little still...but not so much.

I have to say it does look exceptionally clean...very, very impressive.

I'll be interested to find out more when it's released, specifically the amount of prior set up or whatever. Not that set-up is a problem obviously, but if it requires more than TORN, then I may give it a miss as TORN is simply beautiful to perform and watch in equal amounts.

Ahhh now...between E and here, I fear my mortgage is gonna' take a beating this Christmas.

This is my FAVORITE T&R to date (Just by seeing it) but if the method is crap...well...

Anyways before that is mine. Why not Torn asunder? Because when it was going to be released (Without kenners permission I may add) it would have been 500$ meaning probably a really impractical method.

You do not have to do the change, that was most likely the original way it was done. I'm just worried about what you see at 1:04.

Are you 100% certain of this information? I would think that the change is a very integral part of the routine itself. I would rather not see speculation misinterpreted as fact leading up to this release.

Again though the idea of tearing up an indifferent card to reveal their chosen card as the restored card sounds a bit over the top and confusing. It is certainly different than tearing a card up and simply restoring that same card. My only concern is that the impossibility of the effect is somewhat lessened by implicating that there are two cards involved. I am going to wait and see the final preview showing the routine, the full routine, and eventually learning it first hand before passing off any judgment here. I am going to get this regardless simply because I have a great deal of faith in Mathieu as a creator of excellent magic.

Jim,

It was confirmed by Bayme in another thread. Here is what he said:

"The kicker ending is what seals the deal and knocks the socks off of anyone watching. When I saw it, I had to do a double take. I'd encourage withholding judgment until you see it and how fair and clean it all is. You don't HAVE to perform it like that, though-- if you want to just do a straight up torn and restored, you can easily do it like that as well.

The routine and technique are far different than Danny's Torn; both are sweet. Preview video coming tonight at 11..."

You tear a card in four pieces and then you seemingly restore it and end up with an indifferent card. You tear an ace and show a queen? I like T11 but this one seems kind of stupid. The restorations look sweet though.

I believe that's just a graphic. The graphic for "TnR" -- on its trick page -- features wavy vectors that are seen at 1:02. Although, it might be a hidden link, if anyone knows how to read an oscillating electrocardiogram. :D

The changing of the Ace to the Queen is purely optional. I personally like it, since -- as stated before -- one can have a spectator select a card, and then, in anger, one rips up a wrong selection and restores it, ending with the spectator's actual selected card via TnR.

However, to each his own.

Cheers,
JTM

I don't know what it is, but I just don't like tnr. There is just something about it. Maybe it was the way it was performed. I'm not sure, but I just don't like it. For some reason DG's torn looks better to me.

I know. It doesn't look restored to me. The last piece seems to be hanging because of saliva or something.

I believe this is what he/she meant:

I noticed this popped up in a couple places near the beginning, when Mathieu Bich is showing off his video. Don't know if this means anything, I doubt it. No offense.

There are a few things that seal this trick:

1. The fact that's it 85 minutes long. I mean, seriously, what the hell. Insane, but the trick must be kick awesome.

2. It requires no gimmick.

3. It has this picture. This stands up for the trick.

A few things that I'm worried about...

The fact that it's 85 minutes long. Awesome, but seriously, I doubt they filled it up with bloopers and bonuses. The trick seems like it'll be hard.

At the end, Chris Kenner is shown holding the queen, but here's the tricky part: His hand is covering the last quarter to be added in. Coincidence?

The price range is going to be the only limit for me. It's an estatic trick, 85 minutes long--price shouldn't trip me up over a signature effect, but I'm not high on money at this point in time.
